| The Crown of Hanover (1843)
On the occasion of the marriage of Crown Prince George to Princess Marie of Saxe-Altenburg in 1843 the King ordered crown jewels to be made which included this crown, made of gold, set with emeralds, sapphires and oriental garnets.
These Jewels have had a chequered life, belonging in turn to George I, George II, Geoge III, George IV and William IV - Kings of England who, having stemmed from Hanover, were also kings of Hanover. However, this changed when Queen Victoria came to the throne of England, as in Salic Law a woman could not rule Germany. | | |
